PROJECT OVERVIEW

A diverse stakeholder advisory group oversaw preparation of a long-term redevelopment plan for the south riverfront area, a 30-acre site adjacent downtown on the Wisconsin River. The market analysis identified strong potential for new senior housing. A year-round and seasonal market anchor the northend of the site, with new facilities and expanded amenities supporting larger Wausau Whitewater park events.

RESULTS

A succint 1-page implementation strategy was prepared in order to help align future planning and implementation efforts. In the meantime, WPS has made significant progress toward removing its waterfront parcel from FERC boundaries, which will allow them to sell the largest parcel in the study area. The County and WPS have expressed a willingness to work with the City toward achievement of the plan’s vision.
