THE 602 CLUB

PROJECT OVERVIEW

When we aren’t planning great neighborhoods, we are busy building great neighborhoods. Andrew Dane formed a neighborhood real estate development company, Neighborhood Investments, in 2014. A four member LLC, the company invests in real estate within the Lawrence City Park and Downtown neighborhoods of Appleton, WI. The first project, the 602 Club, transformed a blighted building into a neighborhood asset through renovation of a 100-year old victorian home. The project was unique in that it leveraged the active participation of the neighborhood through formation of a volunteer “club,” whose members program the mixed-use space with cultural events and activities.

KEY RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Leveraging neighborhood assets

  • Establishing a neighborhood cultural center

  • Incorporating the arts into neighborhood revitalization

RESULTS

The 602 Club regularly hosts house concerts, quilting groups, small church services, weekly sheepshead gatherings, improvisational music making, sports watching parties, celebration dinners, neighborhood planning events, outdoor concerts, BBQs, art sales, book clubs, and Lawrence University student shows and concerts.
